Positive Behavior Intervention and Support
(PBIS)
Student B is a fifth-grade student who is pleasant, speaks often in class and reads nonstop, but she has difficulty completing all written assignments. She procrastinates, and when pushed to finish an assignment, she begins to cry about some issue at home or becomes angry with one of her fellow classmates for annoying her.
Tier 1
Meet with the student on a regular basis to check her daily planner and ensure she understands what needs to be completed.
Ensure her parents are aware that she is having difficulty completing her assignments, and work she cannot complete at school must be finished at home.
Assign a partner to sit with her to ensure she is on task. She tends to work better with other girls.
Tier 2
Organizational tools for time management
Alternative methods for completing assignments, such as using a computer to type or voice to text app or creating a voicethread
Non-verbal cues and signals
Tier 3
Reward system to help reinforce positive behavior and expectations
Mentoring as a source of accountability and encouragement
Counselor referral to offer the student full attention
Student A is a fourth-grade student who has a hard time concentrating, sitting still, remembering to bring items from home, and organizing his belongings. In his written work, he often makes careless mistakes and finds certain subjects such as math and written assignments difficult to complete.
