Materials
3 Cauldrons
1 Basin
250 mL bleach (Zonrox)
45 g of
Bixa orellana
(Annatto or Istiwitis) powder
12 pieces of Baryos leaves
1.5 L distilled water
Procedure
Dyeing of Baryos samples
(Arora et al. 2017)
3 Baryos leave samples were soaked and heated at 60°C in one dye bath for 60 min
The same are done simultaneously on the other Annatto dye baths but at 100°C and 140°C
Afterwards, the leaves were cold washed followed by soaping, washing and drying
Bleaching of Baryos samples
(Das 2007)
A basin was filled with 500 mL of Zonrox bleach
The Baryos leave samples were soaked in the basin filled with bleach
After one hour, the leaves were taken out of the basin, were washed with water and were dried
Assessment of color intensity
An application called “Physics Toolkit” will be used to compare the color intensity of the leaves
Extracting dye from
Bixa orellana
(Arora et al. 2017)
15 g of Annatto seeds was dissolved in 500 ml of distilled water in a cauldron
The solution was heated in the cauldron at 60°C for 60 min
The procedure above was repeated for 2 times using another cauldron but at 100°C and 140°C
Problem
Does the temperature of heating affect the color intensity of the dye when applied to the Baryos leaf?

Methods
Dye Extraction
(Pan et al. 2003)
Wash the beets with water
Remove its peel using the peeler
Cut it into chunks
Place it in a pot
Add water
Wait for it to boil
Simmer for 20 minutes
Strain to separate the extracted dye from the beet chunks.
Dyeing
Soak the leaf with the extracted dye
Expose to air for drying
Bleaching
(Pan et al. 2003)
Add bleach into a container
Rinse the baryos leaf with water
Soak the baryos leaf

Procedure
Cut the leaf into three equal pieces
Mix the dye with water. Using a thermometer, boil the water until the temperature reaches 100°C.
Place all three pieces in the heater.
Remove the first piece after five minutes and place it on a dry surface.
After the mixture has been boiling for 10 minutes, remove the second piece and place it next to the first.
After the mixture has been boiling for 15 minutes, remove the third piece and place it next to the other two pieces.

Procedure
Water will be prepared and boiled.
Dye taken from plant extract will be prepared by placing leaves in the boiling water.
The leaves will be soaked in the dye at the same time
The leaves will then be hanged for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 hours for drying
The colors from each leaf will then be compared.
