Lymphatic/Immune System
-
INTERSTITIAL FLUID: Located between cells. Similar to plasma, but with fewer blood proteins and blood cells. Anything a cell would expel.
LYMPH: Interstitial fluid (with leukocytes), when its in lymphatic vessels.
LYMPH PATHWAY: 1) Lymph Capillaries---> 2) Lymph Nodes--->
3) Lymph Vessels w/ Valves---> 4) Lymph Nodes--->
5) Lymph Trunks---> 6) Lymph Ducts---> 7) The Heart
-
-
LYMPH NODES: Act as a filter. Destroys antigens, pathogens, and foreign cells
AFFERENT/EFFERENT VESSELS: Several Afferent vessels, only 1-2 Efferent vessels.
-
TUBAL TONSILS: Function: To trap foreign cells, destroy foreign cells, and house MEMORY LYMPHOCYTES. Location: Pharynx/Oral Cavity
LYMPHATIC ORGANS
-
SPLEEN: "Big lymph node". Reticular CT. Destroys pathogens, recycles old erythrocytes. Has sinusoid capillaries which are large & leaky.
LYMPHOID NODULES: Found in organs. Congregations of lymphocytes. Makes memory cells. Located in the appendix and in the intestines.
