Hindu-Muslim Unity
causes
Earlier, Indians had supported British with men and money in hope that they would be rewarded by self-rule and will run their own government but British didn't really keep their promises.
Hindu and Muslim organizations hoped that this pressure on British Government would help them gain self-rule.
Lucknow Pact
In 1916, an agreement was made between Congress and the Muslim League, This agreement is called the Lucknow pact .

The Congress and Muslim League cooperation in the Lucknow Pact was the first political settlement between the Muslims and the Hindus.
Movements
HIJRAT MOVEMENT
The Hijrat Movement was a by-product of the Khilafat Movement. They sold their land and properties to settle in a land governed by Muslims but the Afghan government unable to accommodate such a large number, asked them to return. Hijrat Movement ended in Failure.
Non-cooperation Movement
Mr. Gandhi collaborated with the Muslims and lead the non-cooperation movement . it was done to strengthen the cause of Indian independence from Britain. The Movement of 'non-violence' and 'non-cooperation' meant that the Indians would give up the titles and positions given to them by the British Government and boycott British schools, colleges, court and councils.
The non-cooperation movement came to an end with Chauri Chaura incident so Mr. Gandhi immediately called of the movement as he believed in non-violent means to gain political ends.
KHILAFAT MOVEMENT
it started by the Ali Brothers. Its purpose was to pressurize the British government to preserve the authority of the Ottoman Sultan as Caliph of Islam following the breakup of the Ottoman Empire at the end of the war.

Failure
It was difficult for Hindus and Muslims to combine as they were two different communities, they had differences in culture, tradition and religion, hence it was a failure

Ali Brothers
The Ali brothers, Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali were very active in the Khilafat Movement and in the cause of self-rule. SHAUKAT ALI joined his younger brother Muhammad Ali in the publication of the journals Comrade and Hamdard and in 1915-19, He was also deeply interested in Islam and devoted to the cause of freedom; he also helped Mr. Jinnah in his efforts for the Muslim League. Muhammad Ali Jauhar was a great orator and writer; after graduating from Aligarh he went to Oxford for higher studies.Through his English journal 'Comrade'(1911) and Urdu Journal 'Hamdard' he supported the cause of Turkey and Khilafat in India.
Mr. Jinnah
MR. Jinnah's efforts and success in bringing the two main parties on a common platform earned him the title of 'Ambassador of Hindu-Muslim Unity'. He also supported the Khilafat Movement.
Mohatama Gandhi
MR. Gandhi tried his level best to gain self-rule from the Britishers by leading the Non-cooperation movement and he also supported the Khilafat Movement.
