Introduction
Rephrase:
This essay will discuss whether class is the main determinant of voting behaviour, or whether other factors are now more important
Define:
We are going to assess three General Elections which were 1979, 1997 and 2019, but also we will look at others. General elections are held at least every five years in the UK.
Outline:
We will assess firstly how far class is a factor in voting behaviour and then look at other factors such as; age, ethnicity, gender, region, but also other factors such as leadership, valency, the media and other factors
1st Paragraph
We can divide society into different class groups which are A, B, C1, C2, D and E. In the past class was a major factor, for example in 1979 (evidence below). However, in 1997 and 2019 class was less of a factor (evidence) (Class dealignment)
It was divided into social classes; AB, C1, C2, DE. It shows in the table that in the 1979 elections for the middle class (ABC1) the most voted party was the conservatives with a 59% of the votes, following them was Labour with a 24% and then Liberal Democrats with a 15%. For the Skilled working class (C2) the Conservatives and Labour were equal with an equal vote of 41%.
Other factors have been and are determinant of voting behaviour
Age is a major factor (evidence from 1979, 1997 and 29019
