warmth
children need their parents to provide them with warmth. heating a home is a significant expense and parents will need to pay for this. parents need to provide sufficient clothing and bedding to keep their child warm.
keeping the heating on during winter and getting them boots for rain. wearing a hat.
cleanliness
children need clean and appropriately hygienic environments, as their immune systems are less mature, it is much easier to pick up an infection.
having a bath and kept clean and fresh. their clothing and bedding should be regularly laundered
regular nappy changes and topping and tailing
routine
routines help young children to feel safe and secure. they also help adults to ensure that all of their care needs can be met effectively everyday- for example feeding needs to be spread out between the day to ensure that children have the nutrition they need to keep going.
have a little whiteboard timetable that you put stickers on one each task is finished
rest/sleep
sufficient rest is crucial to a child's wellbeing, learning, growth and development. ensuring children get enough sleep is therefore a very important parental responsibility
making sure they have the right kind of bed and have relaxing activities like colouring
stimulation/opportunities to play
all children need to play in ways that are appropriate to their stage of development. so they can learn and also form an attachment to their carers
put them in a sports team or give them a rattle
exercise/fresh air
exercise and fresh air are good for a child's physical health and wellbeing- young children are built to be busy and active. sufficient exercise builds fitness, robustness and helps strong growth and development.
taking to the park or playing in the garden everyday
a lack of exercise can increase the chance of obesity and if they don't get sunlight they wont get enough vitamin D
love and security
all children need to be loved, wanted and nurtured, and this gives rise to being emotionally secure. children also need to be kept physically secure and safe from harm.
giving them hugs everyday and not letting them out and about by themselves
opportunities for listening and developing
listening and talking with a child shows that you care about them and are interested in them. this is very important to their social and emotional development, it is also vital for their intellectual and language development
talking to them about their day and telling them about yours
food and drink
