Bulgarians battle to keep warm
Politics
People will begin to protest against Bulgarian leaders
Accusations against politics and leaders of the country will occur and will leave the country in an unstable position
"There'd be a revolt. It's cold enough outside and in our homes as it is."
Bulgaria is too dependent on other countries
"Bulgaria is almost 100% dependent on Russia for energy, and has no access to any alternative gas routes or suppliers," said Ognyan Minchev
"Being dependent on the goodwill of Gazprom in a harsh winter leaves Bulgaria not just vulnerable, but helpless, and it amounts to a complete negligence and betrayal of national interests," he added.
Economics
The demand/interest for electric heaters will increase
"We've sold 240 electrical heaters in two days," said Alexandra Nikolova, sales assistant in an electrical shop.
People would want to keep their homes or workspaces warm, hence they would look for electrical heaters
Families will begin buying more medicine
There will be a higher demand for medicine due to more people getting sick
The Bulgarian Economy will lose around 500 million Bulgarian Lev (£227 million) a day
The government may have to compensate the lost money to all businesses in Bulgaria and that will lead to a huge loss of money for the Bulgarian government as well
Environment
Some people who are desparate for staying warm will look for alternitive ways to warm their homes and might use some methods which will be unhealthy for the environment
This will lead to the production of emission gases which will make the air quality poor
Accidents might occur to improper use of different warming methods
If Bulgaria decides to reconsider its gas suppliers it will have to construct new gas routes.
Building a new gas route will not only take quite a lot of time but will leave Bulgaria's nature scarred for a while
If Bulgaria decides to take the responsibility in it's own hands, looking at the quality of Bulgarian workers, the project might be a huge failure which will lead to even more problems
Society
Mental and physical issues will occur in people and they will suffer
Being cold would make them suffer pysically and they won't be in a proper healthy condition
People would become more and more stressed to the many problems they have to deal with
Schools will be closed and won't open on Monday
Kids would have to stay home and those kids which need to be watched over will cause parents to stay home instead of going to work and that will hurt the family's fortune
Because of the cold people won't be concentrated in their work
"The bosses have resisted our pleas for electric heaters so we just sit there and freeze all day, hardly able to concentrate," says Pavlina.
