Electrical Power and Energy
A series circuit is an electric circuit with only one branch, as shown at the right. Series circuits
are used in flashlights.
Parallel circuits contain 2 or more branches for current. Devices on each branch can be turned on or off separately.
The parts of a series circuit are wired one after another. The amount of current is the same through every part. When there is any part of the circuit disconnected it has no current and its called an open circuit.
You do not see the wires because most of them are hidden behind the walls, ceilings, and floors.
In US. Voltage Diff in most branches is 120 V, in some for electric stoves, clothes dryers,is 240 V
The main SWITCH & Circuit Breaker or fuse box serve as electrical headquarters for your home.
PC. branch from breaker or fuse box to wall sockets to appliances to lights.
Electrical power is the rate at which electrical energy is converted to another form of energy.
Heating appliances, such as electric stoves, use much more electrical power than electronic devices, such as computers.
The microwave oven often are labeled with a power rating that describes how much power the appliance use.
Safety Devices
An Electrical FUSE has a small piece of metal that melts if the CURRENT becomes too high, when this piece melts causes a BREAK in the circuit stopping the current.
To enable the current again the FUSE must be replaced
Another device that prevents a circuit from overheating and causing fire, in this a SWITCH is automatically flipped when the current becomes too great. Circuit breakers.
