Hindu Muslim Unity
In 1920s, the Muslims and the Hindus
joined forces to pressurize the
British government to give self rule to the Indians so that they can live with liberty and in peace. The Muslim and the Hindus wanted to live according to their own principles so that no one else can dominate them.
The Ali brothers,
Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali, were very active in Khilafat movement which was to support the cause of Turkey and it's ruler. They had studied at Aligarh and Muhammad Ali Jauhar went to Oxford for higher studies. Both the brothers published the journals COMRADE and Urdu journal HAMDARD. Shaukat Ali was deeply interested in Islam and devoted to the cause of freedom, he also helped Mr. Jinnah in the efforts for Muslim league. Both the brothers served a prison sentence for inciting Indians Muslims against the British to protect the khilafat in Turkey. Hence, both the brothers devoted their whole lives for the cause of freedom and they were considered great Muslim leaders.
THE HIJRAT MOVEMENT: In 1920 1800 Muslims mostly from Sindh and NWFP tried to migrate from India to Afghanistan as they thought that India is now a" land of war" they sold their properties and wished to settle in a land that is governed by Muslims but the Afghan government was unable to accommodate them and asked them to return. The Hijrat Movement ended in failure and most of the migrant Muslims lost faith in the khilafat movement too
Reasons of failure of the Khilafat Movement: 1. The major rulers of the khilafat movement were sent to prison by the government. 2. Because of the failure of Hijrat movement the migrants also lost faith in the khilafat movement
The khilafat movement proved that Hindus and Muslims are two different nation and they could not continue their unity and cannot live together. The khilafat movement created political consciousness among the Indian Muslims.
By Making a rude act for the Indians it was clear that the sentiments of the Indians were ignored and it lead to an irreversible consequences for the future of the British in India. Opposition to British rule and demand for self rule became a firm goal of the Indian people.
After the failure of the Hijrat Movement Muslims were left in the lurch. Once again they were left in a disaster situation and were facing Hindu contempt and criticism
Reasons of failure of the Hijrat movement : When 1800 muslims from India tried to migrant to Afghanistan they sold their properties and when the Afgan government told them to go back the Movement ended up as failure
The reasons of failure of the Rowlatt Act:It came as a rude shock to the Indians who had helped the British in the world war 0ne. It curbed the freedom of an individual to stand up against the liberty and no political meeting could take place. Later on it resulted in the Jallianwala Bagh incident when many people came to protest against this act and because political gathering was not allowed British opened fire on the crowd and this act failed
