Gaining a clear understanding of a topic, or a definition of an unfamiliar term
Locating additional resources on a topic
REFERENCE BOOKS (A specific kind of publication, which as been planned and written, consulted for items of information)
Contain the needed information such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks atlases
Tell user where the information can be found such as bibliographies, index and abstracts

(Works Cited is generally used MLA styles and APA styles)
STYLES OF DOCUMENTATION
A citation is used to documented sources
Works Cited is sometimes referred to as References
The terms mean the same thing
