MAN-MADE PLASTIC POLLUTION CRISIS - Coggle Diagram
MAN-MADE PLASTIC POLLUTION CRISIS
Introduction
It is important to take this increasing plastic usage matters more seriously
It not only pollute the oceans but also impact humans and other living things
Plastic takes hundreds to thousands of years to decompose and some do not even decompose
Problem statement
Plastic will only start to degrade after 700 years and fully degrade in 1000 years, remaining toxic after they break down
Our dependency on plastic grows worse with every passing year and we are still far from going absolutely plastic-free
Plastics are the most mass-produced material on the planet producing greenhouse gases primarily carbon dioxide (CO2)
Objectives
To prevent and significantly reduce plastic litter
To improve infrastructure and systems for waste management, including material recycling, for waste from land-based activities
To raise awareness and good practices aligning with 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) to multilevel programs via bottom-up approach, towards building a sustainable community
How does Plastic Pollute Our Environment
Chlorinated plastics can discharge toxic substances into the neighboring soil, which eventually will leak into groundwater or nearby water roots and also to the ecosystem
Plastics are generally buoyant, which permits them to be transported by the wind and exterior current routes
Plastic pollution impacts living organisms such as animals and humans by turning into toxins for aquatic creatures plus the animals eaten by the humans
How to Reduce Plastic Consumptions
Avoiding single-use plastics such as drinking straws, plates and cutlery made from this material
Reduce plastic usage by bringing your bag in the shop, buying loose produce and in bulk whenever possible and visiting the farmers market
Thrift shopping at second-hand stores, consignment shops, rummage sales and online used-good directories is a viable solution for anyone looking to go eco-friendly in small ways
Importance of Reducing Plastic Usage
To reduce the carbon discharges by plastics that contributes to global warming
To reduce the obstruction of rain channels and sewers
To save animals from being infected by a disease or reproductive problems
Conclusion
This crisis must handled properly in order to make the world livable for the future generations
Although plastic is a needed material and components in our daily life, it serves as much as a threat to our environment
Suggestions
Give up gum, gum is made of a synthetic rubber, otherwise known as plastic
Buy boxes instead of bottles often, products like laundry detergent come on cardboard which is more easily recycled than plastic
Compost food waste to avoid plastic garbage bags and keep organics out of the landfill
