ligaments:
-capsule reinforced by ant/post SC ligs
-costoclavicular lig assits in pivoting action in relation to achored 1st rib
-interclavicular lig supports superior aspect and minimizing inf displacement which endangers BP and subclavian artery
MOI of SC injury
-rare
-result from direct trauma
-more commonly occurs in indirect trauma such as external load applied to someone laying on their side causing body rolling over shoulder
-anterior dislocation more common than post

radiograph views
-Hobbs recommends x-rayed in sitting, leaning forward with elbows supported on x-ray table
-vertical/superior is taken in this position
-"serendipity" view-supine with X-ray angled 40 deg from vertical directed at clavicle
surgical procedures
-recurrent dislocations and instability may lead to chronic pain and disability
-results are inconsistent
-often use some graft material
