Carbohydrates (C,H,O) - Coggle Diagram
Carbohydrates (C,H,O)
Functions
- Provide energy (First source)
- They can be found structurally such as forming cell wall (cellulose) and exoskeleton (chitin) and fungi cell walls are also made from chitin.
- They can be stored such as glycogen and starch.
Types
-
-
Polysaccharides
- Glycogen is stored in animals.
- Starch is stored in plants.
- Cellulose (Plants cell wall)
- Chitin (Exoskeleton of insects) have nitrogen ( N) besides, C,H and O.
Dehydration
Disaccharides and polysaccharides are synthesized through dehydration reaction. Monomers link through bonds and release water.
