Pressure Groups
Pressure groups do not usually enter their own candidates at elections and do not seek to exercise power themselves, but to influence authority to adopt their ideas
There are three main types of pressure groups.
Sectional groups / Interest groups seek to promote the interests of an occupation or another group in society, e.g. the Law Society help solicitors in England and Wales.
Cause groups / promotional groups are focused on achieving a particular goal or drawing to an issue or group of related issues, e.g. the housing charity Shelter, or Greenpeace which promotes environmental awareness.
Social movements are loosely structured, but similar to cause groups. Usually, these are politically radical, e.g. Camps for Climate Action protested against the expansion of environmental targets.
