Desalination of ocean water is the new phase that is difficult, it takes energy & it is expensive in order for people to have more water. While they are trying to find a new technique, it works perfectly. Thought it does, it requires too many humanitary roots to create a new improved freshwater source, leading humankind into a deep economic pit.
Day 0 is the game changer of water conservation, realizing what you are going to lose may affect your perspective by creating strive to stay where you live at the moment. People live in certain places to receive a stable income so therefor, knowing you may have to move somewhere more expensive, may affect you mentally & emotionally to succeed.
If we tie our water to our income, then it may not have the best repercussions in the future, but we would learn to conserve our water & realize that it will run out one day at any point without you knowing.
Causes
A main cause is the amount of water we consume everyday. We actually end up eating more water than we drink, because of how much water goes onto making everyday food products.
The main cause of water consumption is the amount of water that factories use on a daily basis. Millions of liters of water goes into every day products such as flowerpots and chairs. Water is also used to keep our cars running and for all the electricity we use every day.
A small cause is the water we use every day for hygiene. Lot's of water is used when we brush our teeth, take a shower, or flush the toilet. Although this is not as bug of a cause as the water consumption of factories, it still counts!
Evidence
You consume around 3496 litres of water every day much of which we aren't aware of. Meaning 92% of the water
we use is invisible and is hidden in our food. Such as in drinks like coffee or meat which requires large amounts of water in the process. This leaves a small amount of water for the people and gets lost in our waste.
Most of our water is salty meaning it comes from the ocean and 2% is trapped under ice making it nearly impossible to consume it. This leaves 1% of the fresh on the earth for the population's consumtion
Many farmers are struggling to grow crops and are affected by the loss of water for agriculture with the numerous droughts including the lack of fertile land. Leaving their population and others that rely on them to have an absence for their nutritional diets.
Repercussions
This crisis has impacted many populations resulting in violence such as the Syrian war caused by severe droughts around the territory.
Due to the possibility of the desalination process, consumer good prices would sky rocket, leaving millions in depth of income and poverty.
Mexicali's main source of water is the Colorado River. The rivers water source is dependant on snow, snow which has been disappearing. Other places such as major US cities and almost 6 million acres of farmland are also suffering drought from this. By the time the river reaches Mexicali, it is completely barren.
Cape town is the first major city in the world suffering from a severe drought, severe enough that their government is considering shutting down their water supply. This crisis was fortunately avoided from the heavy water preservation that all the residents of Cape Town performed in.

The water crisis affects people who live in countries with less access to freshwater. It also affects people with a lower income and people who are homeless, this is because many of them do not have running water, and have to resort to dirty, polluted water which is harmful to their health

42% of Mexico's water system suffers from leakages, which in turn causes the country to lose nearly half of its water supply. Aquifers are large pockets of water stored underground. Mexico is heavily dependant on these, however aquifers take hundreds of years to fill up. The rate at which Mexico is using up aquifers is much faster than the rate at which these pockets are being filled back up.
