Macbeth. Gives him Thane of Cawdor, Does not believe Macbeth's story about the guards having anything to do with Duncan's death. Mildly suspicious at first, but more and more over time.

Connection to key themes
Ambition. Ross doesn't cling to Macbeth in the hope of gaining his own power, nor does he commit evil acts to do so.
Loyalty. Ross remains loyal to Scotland and Duncan's line even after his death, and puts himself in harms way to speak with Macduff and Malcolm in England (A4S3 See who comes here/ My countryman)
Supernatural. Appears shortly after Macbeth's initial encounter with the Witches. Follows their prophecies. (A1S3 Call thee thane of Cawdor)
Honesty, Conscience and Public vs Private face. Ross outwardly appears to be loyal to Macbeth and his regime, but inwardly he harbours doubts towards Macbeth's intentions (A2S4 What good could they pretend). Secondly, Ross initially failed to tell Macduff about the fate of his family (they were well at peace when i did leave) but his conscience and possibly pity for him did not allow him to continue this lie to Macduff (A4S3 Your wife and babes slaughtered).
