Corfu
border between Greece and turkey
appointed an Italian general called Tellini to supervise it
27 August 1923 Tellinin and his team were ambushed and killed while surveying the greek side of the border
Mussolini was fuming and blamed the greek government
demanded that they pay compensation and execute the murders, The greeks did not know who the murderers were
31st august mussolini invaded the greek island of corfu, killing fifteen people and Greece appealed for help to the league
the council condemned Mussolini's actions on the 7th September and suggested that the greeks pay compensation to the league (not to Italy unless the killers were found)
overall a success for the league as it defused a dangerous situation and everybody obeyed their rulings
Bulgaria
Oct 1925 some greek soldiers were killed on the border and Bulgaria appealed for help
league condemened greek action and ordered Greece to pull out and pay compensation
obeyed the ruling but complained there was one rule for larger states and one rule for smaller ones

Vilna 1920
Poland and Lithuania were created after ww1, vilna was made the capital of Lithuania but had a largely polish population
a polish private army took control of the city
Lithuania appealed for help to the league
The league condemned Polands actions and asked them to withdraw, however they did not
League could have sent in British and French troops however didn't
French didn't want to upset the poles as a potential ally against Germany
Britain didnt want to act alone on the other side of Europe

in the end they did nothing
their policies of collective security failed
Poland did not listen to their ruling
Upper Silesia 1921
Industrial region between Germany and poland, inhabited by both peoples, and both wanted control
in 1920 a plebiscite was ordered to decide ho got control of it
industrial areas voted for Germany
gave these areas to them
rural areas voted for Poland
gave these areas to them
Bothe countries accepted the decision
measures were set up to avoid further disruption such as safeguarding of transport links and food and water sent between them
Aaland islands
midway between Sweden and finland and both countries were threatening to fight for them
The league studied them closely and adjudged they should go to Finland
this decision was accepted and war was avoided
