Provide multilingual texts for students who have multilingual backgrounds, or to encourage students to think about how multilingulism impacts the reading process
Encourage students to read outside of the classroom. Use Interests and hobbies as guides for engaging title selection
Allow students to choose what they want to read! Promote reading for fun, rather than as an assignment. This will help them learn more about themselves as readers and what they find enjoyment in.
Provide a wide variety of content to teach literacy skills. Utilize technology and the resources that come with it. Empower students to learn these resources on their own

Set aside regular time and space for students to share their thoughts, ideas, feelings with the group or 1:1. Never pressure a student to share.
Cultural
Include a discussion of a wide variety of cultures into the everyday curriculum. Not just special holidays or in a world cultures unit.
