Early settlers in Mesopotamia started together in small villages and towns during the
Chalcolithic Age.
Architecture-
The cities were not well planned, but they followed a uniform pattern.

Government-
Each city had its own independent government ruled by a king that controlled the city and
the surrounding farmland.

Social Class-

The rest of the upper class was made up of the wealthy such as high level administrators
and scribes.
Below the upper class was a small middle class made up of craftsman, merchants, and civil
servants.
Art-
They were wonderful craftsmen. They made jewelry of precious gold, fancy chairs, and unglazed
vases that kept water cool.
They were not very good at huge stone sculptures. They made beautiful
pottery from wet soil that their pottery became a form of wealth.

System of writing-
The Sumerians developed the first form of writing- cuneiform, the first written
language in 3300 BC.
As Sumerian towns grew into cities, the people needed a way to keep track of
business transactions, ownership rights, and government records.

Therefore, the people who lived there needed
to trade with neighbouring countries in order to acquire the resources they needed to live.
