Relationships
Having a strong student relationship with all my students in the classroom
Knowing my students cultural backgrounds and home lives
Understand all the different levels of literacy development and the ways I can benefit/modify their literacy skills
Knowing my student's interest/style of books they prefer
Involve families in the classroom
Parents/guardians can help implement literacy practices at home
Encourage family volunteers in the classroom
Assessments
Utilize formative & summative assessments
Will help gauge the level of literacy and monitor progress
Formative assessments: help take pressure off of students and help modify my teaching
Progress monitoring
Keeping track of students progress will help increase literacy skills and engagement making sure students are reading at the appropriate difficulty
Help create reading goals, internally motivate students
Literature
Creating window and mirrors for my classroom library
Reading culturally diverse books that are engaging for students
Finding books that interest my students to promote reading
Making sure to implement silent reading/trips to the library
Using various lessons for literature (readers theater, read alouds, SSR, guided reading)
Accessible Resources
Having readily available resources for students in the classroom and at home
Utilizing both online and in-person resources
Creating book lists to further develop literacy skills
Having a book share often (students can share their favorite books to their peers)
