My mind map

Metals

Metalloids

Gold

It is a shiny, yellow metal, considered to be precious for its beauty, scarcity, and chemical stability. Its used for making ornaments and coins, used in dentistry to fill in teeth cavities, and used in the manufacture of electronic devices

silver

It is an off white, lustrous metal. It's used in making jewelry, filling in for teeth cavities, used as a purifier for water, electroplating, and for making thin sheets to decorate sweets, as it increases the immunity of our bodies.

Iron

It is a metal used since ancient times and is reactive. It's used in making pipes, tanks, cylinders agricultural tools, nails, wire meshes, railings, furniture, bridges, ships, machinery parts, etc. They are also used in the construction industry for power transmission towers. In ancient times, they were mostly used to make utensils, cutlery, and surgical instruments, etc.

Mercury

It is a silvery, white, liquid metal. Mercury is mostly used in thermometers as a thermometric liquid, in barometers, scientific apparatus, and dentistry for filling up cavities. (amalgam)

Non-metals

Oxygen

Oxygen is evidently the most useful gas in the world. Human beings and animals use oxygen for respiration and breathing, they are used in hospitals as oxygen cylinders for serious patients, in industrial uses, combustion, and even different adventures for different altitudes like mountain climbing, to sea diving.

Nitrogen

Nitrogen is used in food canning, ie. like packaging potato chips or electrical bulbs. They are also used for producing compounds that are used as fertilizers like urea.

Sulphur

It is used as fungicide and insecticide, manufacture of sulphur drugs used as antibodies, and is used to vulcanize rubber, ie, a process of converting rubber latex to hard rubber.

Carbon

1) Coal- Its mostly used as a fuel in homes and industries,
and for some trains to function. 2) Graphite- It's a black, lustrous substance, that is mostly used in the leads of pencils. It's also a good conductor of electricity, and as a solid lubricant, used for machinery as grease. They also act as nuclear reactors and is used for making heat resistant crucibles for keeping molten metals. 3) Diamond- It's the crystalline form of carbon, and is considered a precious gem, in jewelry. Since it's also one of the hardest occurring substances, it's used for cutting glass and grinding hard substances.
4) Charcoal- it is used as a decolorizing agent in the sugar industry.

Inert gases

Argon

It's used for filling into electric bulbs, and technically improves the quality and life of the bulb.

Neon

Its used in making advertising signboards and tube lights, and emits colored light when a high current passes through it.

Radon

It's the only radioactive inert gas used for cancer treatment, evidently proving how useful it is.

Germanium

It's a lustrous, hard and greyish, white metalloid, and is used mostly as a semiconductor. It is also used as a transistor in many electronic applications. It is also used to form alloys and as a phosphor in fluorescent lamps.

Antimony

It's a lustrous grey metalloid and is used in the electric industry to make semiconductor devices. Its also used in printing presses as type metal, and is alloyed with lead to improve its hardness and strength. its also used in batteries, paints, enamels, glass pottery, etc.

Silicon is used in making microchips for comps, transistors, solar cells, etc. it's also used in the manufacture of waterproof material called silicone, and therefore used to make umbrellas, raincoats, bags, etc. They are used as grinding tools. Since it helps in forming sand, it is used to prepare concrete, bricks, and cement. Its also used in enamel, pottery, glass, preserving eggs, making electrical steel, etc
