Chapter 8 Developing Emotional Intelligence
The four components are based on dealing with yourself and others.
Emotional self management
Learn how to manage your feelings. This will help you not make decisions that you will later on regret.
Emotional self awareness.
Know what you are feeling. This will help your decision making and help you understand where your at in the moment.
Knowing what your emotions are if the first and an important part of managing your emotions. Know what you are feeling, name it. Learn what you are feeling.
Understand why you are feeling the way you do. Don't make decisions based on your feelings, that's how you miss out on opportunity.
Social Awareness
Have empathy for other peoples emotions. Help yourself by helping other people with their emotions. This will also increase your people skills and people skills go a long way in the work force.
Relationship Management.
Handle your emotions the right way when it comes to relationships. Learn how to bite your tongue, dont say things that wont help resolve the conflict.
STRESS
Stress is the brain releasing hormones cortisol and adrenaline. Stress is caused by past events, current events and future events.
Don't let this stress you out but stress has a negative impact on your health. It has an effects your mental skills like memory and creativity.
Unhealthy vs. Healthy Stress Reduction
Healthy: Realizing and noticing what you are feeling. Choose new behaviors, choose new thoughts Make positive actions. Turn your emotions into something to help yourself.
Unhealthy: Drinking, eating too much or too little, spending all your money, not sleeping enough or too much and drugs.
Self Acceptance
Self- Esteem. Accept yourself, you can become anything you want to be, you can change your habits, you can change your beliefs.
Accept your flaws. Its easier to accept them than to go through life hating them. Everyone has flaws and that's okay. Be you, not them.
