- - - - Memory loss can occur based on which point in time the patient became amnesic.
      - Retrograde is patients have memory loss for events before the onset of amnesia. Anterograde is being unable to form new memories after the onset of amnesia. This shows that not all of LTM is affected in amnesic patients, bc they still have access to memories prior the onset of amnesia e.g. Clive knows who his wife is.
      - Medial temporal lobe Amnesia
        
        Classic type of Amnesia - medial temporal lobe damage, doesn't show complete retrograde amnesia, but unable to create new long term memories (severe anterograde amnesia).
      - Focal Retrograde Amnesia
        
        Quite rare - they have complete retrograde amnesia, but little/no anterograde amnesia. Patient couldn't remember anything from before his amnesia, but he was able to learn new things after his amnesia.
      - Long Term Amnesia
        
        Patient showed catastrophic forgetting - we all forget things slowly after time, but this patient would forget things in 30 mins. This is because he was unable to recall things (?), which inhibited him from remembering information.

      - Impairment in episodic memories
        
        Tulving (1972) says amnesic patients have a loss of episodic memories, but not semantic memories - they're good on the WAIS test (which is semantic related questions) but bad at autobiographical memory tests (bad retrograde and anterograde amnesia).
