Food
the food was rice and beans and if they didn't want it or didn't eat it.
There is a torturing devise that was meant to open peoples mouse and it was painful.
The ship
The ship had a top and a bottom deck
The men and women were separated to different sides and couldn't switch and the children cold move around the ship.
the men and women were also separated on the top deck with a built in wall.
There were weapons on the top of the ship incase anyone wanted to try and escape
There was over 400 people on each ship
Punishements
Castration or cutting off half the foot for lesser crimes
Cutting off various limbs
Throwing slaves overboard
Branding with hot irons
Tied up
Raped
Burning alive
Living conditions:
The conditions were horrible, they would lye in a boat and try to fit as much people on as they could and not a lot of people survived
the women would be sexually abused but have better conditions, the men would be tortured and the children would just run around and go any whare
Slaves were unable to go to the toilet and had to lie in their own filth.
Slaves were all chained together
Sleeping
Tight pack - this method involved packing as many slaves into the hold as possible.
A ship’s hold was cramped - only five feet high, with a shelf running round the edge to carry yet more slaves
The slaves were loaded in so close together that one captain described them as being 'like books on a shelf'.
Slaves were chained and movement was restricted
Life on board the ship
People were forced to do work of dance
If they didnt dance or work they had a punishment
They were also forced to eat rice and beans and if they didnt they got whipped
Most people were forced to shave their heads including women
Clothing
Slaves were outfitted with European clothing they often found to be constricting and uncomfortable.
