        (Goal is to help the students achieve performance)
        
        Things to try within the classroom
        
        Differentiated assignments - (NEWSELA is an example) they have current event topics but with different assignments for 5 different reading levels. This way all ss are on the same topic but working on a task more suited for their ability.
        
        Group Pairings - mixing ss into groups based on their abilites. Maybe one ss is good at Math calculations while the other ss is strong with reading comprehension.
        
        Giving options- For a project let ss choose how they want to present what they know. It might be a role-play, a video, or a written report. This gives ss the power to use skills they are most confident in.
        
        Group Instruction - Break instruction into groups to make it more intimate and specified to that group of ss. This helps ss who struggle with auditory learning and makes it more personalized.
        
        Time Expectations- to make assignments based around time rather than a set of problems/paragraphs. This is to help ss with slower processing speeds not feel behind the rest of the class.

        Step 3: Referral to Special Education Team
        
        In this step the Teacher will reffer the struggling student to a Special Education Team.
        
        Step 4: Eligibility Meeting
        
        The IEP or Special Education Team will meet to discuss the student.

        Parents can forego this step by making their own request to the school.
        
        This step should involve parent communication as well.
        
        Parents should be notified of the struggles and what things are working/not working in the classroom
        
        The teacher can ask the parents to support the student at home as well. But it is important to be reasonable with what you ask.
        
        Some parents may be overwhelmed already.
        
        Others may be overbearing on the kid and the kid just needs a break to be a kid.
        
        Parents often know the kids best since they see them the most so it is important for the Teacher to dive into what the parent knows and sees with the ss.
