Stages of learning

Associative stage (2)
Practice phase where learner starts to refine the accuracy of preforming the skill and give themselves feedback
Autonomous stage (3)
Skill becomes automatic (elite athletes) and they can devote attention to other tasks such as tactics
Practice
Practice distribution
Massed practice
Continuous practice where there is little or no rest between trials or less frequent but longer duration sessions (suitable for high skill and motivation level)
Distributed practice
Spaced practice where there are frequent rest intervals between trials or frequent, shorter training sessions (suitable for physically demanding and complex tasks)
Practice variability
Blocked practice
Practicing the same skill continuously in a block without changing to a different task e.g doing 50 forehands in a row while being fed balls
