Pure Approach
Under pure comparative fault, a negligent plaintiff recovers some damages from a negligent defendant regardless of the plaintiff's degree of fault

Contributory Negligence
Under the defense of contributory negligence, the plaintiff is barred from recovery if her unreasonable conduct contributes in any substantial way to her injury.
Example: "In an action to which this section applies, any contributory fault chargeable to the claimant diminishes proportionately the amount awarded as economic and noneconomic damages for an injury attributable to the claimant's contributory fault, but does not bar recovery."
