Biology Behavior
-
Evolutionary psychologists- study of evolution of behavior and the mind using principles of natural selection
-
-
Behavior genetics- study of the relative power and limits of genetic and environmental influence on behavior.

Phrenology
studying bumps on the skull, could reveal a person’s mental abilities and character traits
Frontal lobe- speaking and muscle movement, front of head, behind forehead.
Parietal lobe- top of head towards rear. receives sensory input, touch, body position.
Occipital lobe- back of head, info from visual fields.
Temporal lobe- just above the ear. auditory areas, receives info from the opposite ear
-
Somatosensory cortex- front of the parietal lobe. registers and processes body touch and movement sensations.
Biological psychologists
the scientific study of the links between biological (genetic, neural, hormonal) and psychological processes.
neural networks- it is how we can learn, feel, and think.
our automatic response to stimulus. simple pathway, pain-reflex pathway. the brain will take too long to react.
-
Hormones- chemical messenger that manufactured by the endocrine glands travel through the bloodstream and affect other tissues in the body
Adrenal glands- a pair of endocrine glands that sit just above the kidneys and secrete hormones (epinephrine and norepinephrine) that helps arouse the body in a time of stress.
Pituitary gland- endocrine’s most influential glands, under the influence of the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland regulates growth and control over the endocrine system.
glial cells? Where specifically in the brain are glial cells located? cells in the nervous system that support, nourish, and protect neurons; they may also play a role in learning and thinking.
Neuron

Mylin sheet

Neurotransmitters
Acetylcholine- enables muscle action, learning, and memory. Alzheimer's disease.
Dopamine-influences movement, learning, attention, and emotions. oversupply linked to schizophrenia, undersupply linked to tremors and decreased mobility in parkinson’s.
