Background:
Concerning the statement above, based on the personal experience of the researcher as a lecturer at Balikpapan Foreign Language Academy some problems were found, such as; the vocabulary instruction had not been given proper attention. The instruction tended to be teacher-centered by utilizing the lecturing method. The students tended to pay inadequate attention to their vocabulary. This vocabulary instruction was considered not as important as the instruction in reading, speaking, listening, and writing courses. Because of this inappropriate attention, the students’ scores in this course were often unsatisfactory.
Based on the problem which is has been mentioned before, it is necessary to change the old method with the new one. The implementation of the 5E model in Vocabulary Course should be initiated with a study that proves the new method is better than the old one.
