Psychoanalysis has it's use as well, as people are influenced by their conditioning as children and sometimes people may have repressed things from their past and it is important for them to revisit it.
The difference is that to a client psychoanalysis may become complicated, as any behaviors must have a connection to the past. CBT is valuable for it's practical applications, the principals are pretty simple to understand, the therapy is not over complicated, and it is proven effective. It is a great addition to psychoanalysis and other forms of therapy.

Example of ABC: Two people at bars try to talk to someone, they are both rejected. One reaction is to say it's all my fault, no one will ever like me. the other person's is that they should change their approach, and they go back out and end up meeting someone because they tried again. The first person goes home and doesn't meet anybody. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Internalizing the results of an event can trigger depression in some individuals if their resulting thoughts are negative and the individual can intervene in this process if they actively change their thoughts. (i.e. the law of attraction, think good things and good things will come to you)
To internalize a situation is to take on complete responsibility for the event. Externalizing is putting blame on an external factor. Internalizing can be harmful, as it can trap a person in negative feelings and cause their resulting actions to be negative. Externalizing pushes focus towards changing and improving the situation and as a result the C is a behavior which does so.

Psychoanalysis may not be applicable to everyone, an adult may not be thinking about how they grew up. After linking a behavior to their past, how do they change from there? It may not always be influenced by the past. CBT is a much more practical approach for many people in many situations.
