GETTING WOOD
Logging and pruning
Trees are cut at the base of the trunk.
Branches are cut when the tree is down
Transport
Huge machines lift the logs
Stack them on trucks that take them to easily accessible areas.
Then they take them to a sawmill
Stripping the bark
The bark from the logs is removed by a bark stripping
That has rollers with teeth as the logs rotate
Cutting
Logs are cut to the length that is needed
These pieces are cut into planks.
Drying
The wood must be dried so that it does not change shape with changes in temperature
Dry lasts longer and is lighter
Planing
Planner machines
Eliminate any rough surfaces
Make accurate-sized sheets of wood
