- - - - Ellen's mom's high expectations gave her strength to stand up for herself
- - - - Persevering through and facing fear brings success.
        
        "One after the other they leaped higher and higher into the air, desperate to reach the dragon's gate. None made it... until one golden carp finally soared through the gate and transformed into a large, glorious dragon."
        
        This passage backs up my universal understanding because it shows how the one carp that persevered became the dragon. This implies that working hard and never giving up makes you triumphant. The carp had to face the fear the other carps didn't. In conclusion, perservearing through the fear brings success.
- - - - Stress at young ages creates benefits for adulthood.
        
        "On the whole, monkeys that faced one or two stressors (groups 2 and 3) clung less to their mothers than those in the last two groups. They also more readily explored their new surroundings. In general, they showed less anxiety than both the no-stress and high-stress groups."
        
        This passage describes some of the benefits the monkeys had after experiencing stressors. These benefits, less anxiety, and less fearful, will stay for their future and help them live a better as an adult.

        "I look at my dad and take a deep breath . It's time to leap through the dragon's gate. 'mom we need to talk'"
        
        In this passage it describes the moment when Ellen stands up to her mom. This took a lot of bravery considering the fact that her mom has very high and strict expectations. If Ellen wants freedom in her life then she needed to be brave in that moment. This is a clear example of my universal understandin, freedom is obtained my being brave.
