realisim
left realism see crime as a real problem which should be taken seriously and real solutions should be thought to deal with the problem
-
solutions with left realism- improve the environment where people live, have more community policing
right realism see that some areas have lost their sense of community and this as lead to a high level of single parents therefore forming this group known as the underclass.
Wilson 1975- saw that having strong communities is an effective way of dealing with crime, he saw how people are more likely to commit a crime if the benefits outweigh= the cost of commiting the crime. this is called rational calculation.
solutions from right realism- 0 tolerance policing and increased police patrols, harsher punishments
the zone of transition
highly populated, larger turnover in immigrant population.social deprivation- poor run down housing, poor conditions leads stress on families.
