separation techniques

chromatography
s used to separate mixtures of soluble substances. These are often coloured substances such as food colourings, inks and plant pigments.
-
fractional distillation
This is used to separate a mixture of liquids from each other.
It makes use of their different boiling points.
in the petroleum industry, to refine crude oil into petrol and other groups of compounds. The oil is heated and the vapours rise to different heights, up a tall steel fractionating column.
Crystillazation
a solid that has dissolved in a liquid and made a solution. The solution is warmed in an open container, allowing the solvent to evaporate, leaving a saturated solution.
Types of mixture
Alloy
A mixture of a metal and one or more elements, usually other metals or carbon

what is a mixture?
substances remixed together, not chemcially combined
suspensions
heterogenous mixture, different composition

Saturated/ unsaturated
SATURATED-A solution becomes a saturated solution when it has the maximum concentration of a solute dissolved in a solvent. After it is saturated any additional solute will not dissolve into the saturated solution.
UNSATURATED- has not been bonded to the maximum amount of bonds possible, more bonds can be made.
