THE GOVERNOR
the governor represented the king, controlled the military, and looked after the defence of the company. he would also deal with "external relations", such as the trade with the First Nations.
THE INTENDANT
an intendant was the cheif administrator of the colony. he would work to keep the colony in good order and make it less dependant on France for meeting its basic needs. he would also keep his eye ou for opportunities to exploit the colony for France's benefit

in France, Habitants were like slaves, but in New France, the rules were a bit more flexible
SEIGNEURS
Seigneurs were like landlords. they would rent out their land for habitants to live on in exchange that they work on his/her land. t
often, seigneurs would earn their land as grants from the king of France
once the seigneur hired habitants, he would have to build a flour mill, a church, and his own house to live in.

coureur de blois means "runner of the woods". this came to be because these men would often run into the woods to trade with First Nations
