M2 U3 A1 - Students with Learning Difficulties

Student withdraws from normal passions, isolates themselves from social circles, lacks focus in class, becomes irritable, and/or dramatically shifts behaviour (School Counselor)
Teacher keeps flexibility in planning lessons, including many visuals, and varying modes of instruction to account for all types of learners (Counselor).
Teacher develops meaningful connection with family of struggling student, continues to keep family updated on student progress, collaborate with family to ensure they are reinforcing skills and behaviour expectations at home.
If nothing has positively influenced their behaviour or grades and all other strategies have been exhausted, the school will refer student to special education services (Counselor).
Special education services will come up with IEP for the student based on diagnosis and goals for child. School will ensure that all students have access to the same support and resources (Counselor).
Teacher notifies other teachers, the dean, and the counselor about student behaviour and challenges. A consensus can be made on the severity of the issue.
Teachers work together to discuss successful strategies, in regards to the specific student.
Teacher starts activities will the most important and simple task, then add extension activities for quick workers (Teacher).
Learning enviornment is fit for all. Students have space for individual and collaborative work. Students have safe space to calm down, recharge, and reflect (Desautels, 2017).
Student refuses to do work, disrupts class, wastes time, and/or fails to follow instructions (Teacher)
