How to stay calm under pressure.
Some people experience "choking" or performance anxiety.
"Choking" is when a person fails right when it matters most.
This is common in sports, but also happens public speakers and musicians.
Where else in our lives can "choking" happen?
Why does choking happen?
Because of dstractions
The mind is not focused on the task and is distracted by stress or anxiety.
Our temporary memory is very susceptible to forgetting.
Stress reduces our memory capabilities.
Because of explicit monitoring.
This is when pressure causes people to over-analyze tasks.
When we perform unconscious tasks unconsciously, we are better at them.
However, if we monitor that task consciously, we become worse at it!
Some individuals are not as prone to choking.
This sometimes depends on your attitude towards yourself and your performance.
Why?
Who is most likely to choke in high pressure situations?
Those who are self-conscious, anxious, and afraid of being negatively judged by others.
Why?

Have a pre-performance routine!
Have an external focus on the overall goal!

Ask the students to reflect on how they could change their strategies to become more effective based on the video.
