The Cardiac Cycle - Coggle Diagram
The Cardiac Cycle
CARDIAC CYCLE
-
-
- Atria fill up so much, the AV valves are forced open and blood flows into the ventricles.
-
- Atria contract and force the remaining blood out of both atria.
-
- Semi-Lunar valves are forced open.
- Blood Starts to flor into the aorta and pulmonary artery.
-
- Ventricles contract anf force remaining blood out of the heart.
-
THE CONDUCTION SYSTEM
- SA node, which is myogenic, creates its own impulse, it is located in the right atrium.
- The impulse travels through atria walls causing both atria to contract, the impulse is now at the AV node.
- The impulse pauses at the AV node for 0.1 seconds, this allows time for the atria too empty.
- The AV node passes the impulse down the bundle of his, this is located in the septum.
- The bundle of his splits and allows both ventricles to contract from the bottom up via the purkinji fibres.

CONTROL OF HEART RATE
INTRINSIC CONTROL
Temperature increases during exercise, causes the nervous impulse to travel quicker through the heart.
Starlings Law - More stroke volume, more blood returns to the heart, heart muscle is stretched, causing greater force of contraction.
HORMONAL CONTROL
Adrenaline stimulates the heart rate to increase and also increase the force of contraction - for example - anticipatory rise.
NEURAL CONTROL
-
- Send electrical impulse to the brain.
- Signal is sent to the CCC - Cardiac Control Centre in the Medulla Oblongata.
- Nerve imulse travels to heart
