Why School Systems need to change
Thesis Statement
Schools should change their system based on how the world progresses so that it can teach future generations, how to make a living and survive in the future, and how to apply the things they have learned in school. School systems shouldn't stay the same as they did 20 years ago. This way, the things you learn will not all be useless.
Students should have freedom of choice to learn what they want to, not to learn for an exam, get a good mark, and then forget about it a few days after.
History and Background
The first type of education originated from Ancient Athens, where the purpose was to train men to become a part of the democratic system. It included academic and physical education.
Tools in schools have evolved, from chalkboards to whiteboards, to smartboards. Most work were done on paper 20 years ago, but now most assignments are online.
School is a system derived from the word "education" which in Latin root, meaning to bring up a child, to lead.
Specialized Info
15% of an average life span is spent at school
Most schools are free to attend, private schools cost more but the education there is better. Anybody can get a basic education online for free
Hook
School can be stressful, it can lead to depression, anxiety, and loss of sleep due to work.
The current school system is not so much about learning new things, but rather getting good grades and surviving.
Argument#2 All subjects should be equal
Every student is different, and they have the right to pursue their dreams, talents and what they love to do. They shouldn't be forced to learn something they don't like.
Core subjects, math science, and L.A are very important. But that doesn't mean we should prioritize them over other subjects like art and gym. Each subject should have an equal amount of time, there should not be more than 2 same subjects in a day.
Sometimes recess/break time are short. This may affect learning, study shows that taking a break for a period of time can help you retain information.
Argument#1 Teachers are underrated
Teachers should be paid as much as a doctor. Doctors save lives, but a teacher leads the lives.
The role of a teacher is very important, they educate and lead the future generation. Without teacher's there will be no future.
Most people and parents blame teachers for problems. Teachers don't have control over what they teach, they do it because it''s their job. It is not the teachers fault that the school system is corrupt.
Argument#3 Bullying can cause problems
A student's life is already hard enough, bullying can add onto that and cause more stress and anxiety. Study shows that kids being bullied have the highest risk for suicide related behavior.
Teachers should teach students about bullying and how it affects other people. Students need to respect each other in order to create a kind and loving community.
Over 70% of bullying happens at school
