The Supernatural: Why is the fascination of supernatural so appealing to the younger audience?

Ethical Lens:

In common tv shows, the supernatural are seen as evil and have no morals.

Actually, most of them have morals, they are just misunderstood by society for their powers.

Maybe this could represent the human's conflict with figuring out what's right and what's wrong.

Also highlights how having a lot of power can cloud people's moral judgment of themselves.

Sort of leads on to the question of whether or not we as humans are capable of greatness. We could attempt to answer this by using examples that giver these beings personifications. How we too are somewhat our own version of the supernatural. We live as though we are because the supernatural reflect our natural behaviors as human beings. All it has a a mystical aspect to it. :

The Supernatural go against the laws of nature.

No matter how great the want to be, a lot of people die in their hands.

Why are we so fascinated with the supernatural?

Why is it easier to accept it through the point of view of fiction than from a religious POV?

Religion views the supernatural as evil

Fiction, everyone wants to be a werewolf, witch, vampire, etc.

Ghosts are evil entities that haunt people.

It makes us question whether or not these stories are works of fiction, or there are some truth to it. We as humans are always curious of the unknown (looking at the aspect of human exploration and expansion)

Culture & Social

Humans are attracted to different aspects of life: morality, love, friendship, betrayal, jealously, and sadness.

Humans are drawn to the mystery and adventure.

Humans fall in love with the person who is supernatural

It's always in high school. Almost as if it appeals more to teenagers than adults.

GOD ASPECT

Humans always yearn for power. Creating these fiction beings give us some kind of power, as if we physically created them ourselves. Honestly, it gives us a closer understanding of God, or even being God-like.

Young adults are more powerful and vulnerable because they are still trying to figure out what they wanna do in life.

Youth culture is more diverse than adult culture???

Girlhood & the Supernatural: They go hand in hand. In shows and movies, the protagonist is usually a teenage girl is lacks experience (sexually) and is a sign of purity. They usually attract the bad things, the Supernatural beings, but is also attracted to them. (We could provide some examples from movies and television shows that contribute to this idea.)

How is it that people believe in God, who hasn't been seen, yet wont believe in ghost since they cant be seen?

Is the "supernatural" presented only to instill fear

How is the Supernatural portrayed throughout the world

Scientific

Supernaturalism is a world view classified by scientists

Supernaturalism allows for the possibility that there is more to the world then what is found in nature

God, angels, demons, and the human spirit are all part of the supernatural world
