Muscles in our legs
Gluteus maximus
It’s main function is the extension of hips. It’s the largest muscle in the human body which helps to move hips and thigh.
Gluteus medius
Gluteus minimus
It’s a deep muscle under the gluteus medius. With similar function of gluteus maximus and medius.
It’s a deep muscle under gluteus maximus . It’s function is same as gluteus maximus. They also help in rotating the hips

Vastus lateralis
The vastus lateralis muscle is located on the side of the thigh. This muscle is the largest of the quadriceps group .Collectively, the quadriceps muscle is the largest in the human body and its purpose is to extend the knee. The specific task of the vastus lateralis muscle is to extend the lower leg and allow the body to rise up from a squatting position.

Quadriceps
Rectus femoris
Rectus femoris is part of the quadriceps group. It’s function is knee extension and hip flex action.
-
Vastus intermedius
The main function of the vastus intermedius is extension of the knee.
Calves
Gastronemius
Gastrocnemius muscle, also called leg triceps, large posterior muscle of the calf of the leg. Action of the gastrocnemius pulls the heel up and thus extends the foot downward; the muscle provides the propelling force in running and jumping.
Soleus
Soleus muscle, a flat, broad muscle of the calf of the leg lying just beneath the gastrocnemius muscle. Its major action is flexion of the ankle joint, particularly when the leg is bent at the knee, thereby extending the foot downward.

The biceps femoris is a two-part spindle-shaped muscle. It has two heads: the long head and the short head. The functions of the biceps femoris are in controlling knee and hip joint movements. It is a commonly injured muscle in high-intensity sports.
Semitendinosus is a fusiform muscle . It’s function is Extension of the thigh at the hip, Flexion of the leg at the knee, Internal rotation of the knee when the knee is flexed.
It is involved in knee extension, along with the other muscles which make up the quadriceps muscle.
