Special Education Process
student exhibits divergent needs compared to peers.
Interventions are implemented based by the child's need by general educator and the next step in determined by the success.
If interventions are successful then the process stops
If interventions are unsuccessful then
the student is officially referred for evaluation for special education services
Tests are conducted and medical history, information about social interactions at school and at home, adaptive behavior in the community, educational performance, and other relevant factors are considered but parent approval is needed.
The information from the test is used to identify children who actually have a disability and qualify for special education services
An individualized education plan is developed to meet the needs of the student
The individualized program begin and it includes appropriate education for the student, the student’s participation in the general education curriculum, the accommodations the student receives.
Progress is monitored
reported and updated

For those students who do not meet the eligibility requirements their education continues to be the responsibility of the general educators.
