Year 10 Mathematics Test November 2020 - Action Plan for Future Improvement
Revision Tactics to Use
Doing Practice Exam Questions
Practising large 3, 4, and 5 mark questions
e.g. Diagram containing many circle theorems - find the value of an angle
e.g. Proving what the area of a shaded part of a circle is
These questions require careful thinking, and take some time to do, so pay attention to key information given in the question, and write out each working you do step by step
Practising short 1 and 2 mark questions
1 mark questions
Recall basic information by revising key points from notes
e.g. Simplifying a simple ratio
2 mark questions
Be able to give appropriate reasoning for a basic point
e.g. Calculating the length of a sector's arc
Flashcards on key formulas
e.g. area of a circle = (pi)r^2
On Quizlet (online flashcard resource)
On paper
Topics Needing Improvement (from test)
Ratio Problems when one part of the ratio is given
Simplifying ratios with decimals
Large (4 mark) problems to prove what the area of the shaded area of a circle is, when the information is given in terms of pi.
Making sure to simplify large numbers in a unit to smaller numbers of a different unit as the answer to scale ratio questions
Other Skills Needing Improvement
Time Management
Can improve on this by...
Doing practice questions with a time limit, to mimic a real test or examination, so that doing the real test or examination doesn't surprise you with a short time limit
Always keeping a clock/watch nearby when doing questions at home or at school, and regularly check the time in between questions.
Before a test or exam, checking how many questions are on the paper, and the time given to do them - then calculate approximately how much time you have to do each question and spend this amount of time on each question before moving onto the next one.
Organisation
Can improve on this by...
Categorising each topic separately and clearly in school notebook and home notebook (contains practice of different questions from the GCSE textbook that I do when I want to practise a topic I'm unsure on)
Keeping books and equipment in their designated places, and not moving them, so that they don't get misplaced and lost
Keeping notes clean and legible, so that revising later on is easier and more enjoyable
For future tests and examinations, making sure to keep a set revision/study timetable, so that revising is regular and effective, and making sure to follow these timetables accordingly
