Definition
It is a condition in which the airways are narrowed and swelling of the airways which results in extra mucus forming on the bronchioles.

Pathophysiology
There is first exposure to the stimulus deal to the various causes. These then cause an activation of mast cells in the tracheo-bronchial tree. Activation releases chemical mediators(histamine) that cause the constriction of the smooth muscle in the bronchioles to constrict. Constriction is accompanied by capillary permeability in the airways which results in the bronchospasm of the airways.
