The principles of action research
Action research is a particular way of investigating your own learning. That is, it is a form of research that people can carry out in any context, regardless of their status or position.

What do action researchers believe? Ontological problems
Action researchers believe that people are able to create their own identities and allow other people to create theirs. They try to find ways of accommodating multiple values perspectives.
How do investigators in action find out? Epistemological problems
Knowledge is never static or complete; it is in a constant process of development as new understandings emerge. This view of knowledge regards reality as a process of evolution, surprising and unpredictable.
How do investigators in action act? Methodological problems
Action researchers regard learning and experience as processes which enable individuals to make choices about who they are and how they are together. However, people’s choices often conflict, so they have to be negotiated and accommodated.
What are the socio-political implications of our knowledge?
Challenging dominant epistemologies
The purpose of research is generally understood as collecting data and testing it to generate new insights that can produce new theories about how reality works.

Future directions in action research
Action researchers need to show their collective intent to live out the values which inform their work. Because they write about action research they inevitably position themselves as action researchers, so they need to take care that they do not stay at the level of abstract analysis.
