Amnesia due to any trauma or head injury
Clinical manifestation
Disorientation and confusion
Memory difficulties
Poor attention & slower information processing
Changes in emotion & behavior
A tendency to wander
Uncharacteristic aggression e.g violence & swearing
Nursing intervantions
Agree with what they say instead of trying to correct them.
Avoid confrontation as this can cause distress
Aid in reducing stress by affering distraction & activities
Use photographs to stimulate their memory when talking
Reduce background noise to aid pace of processing things
Treatment
Cholinergic treatment - physostigmine salicylate and lecithin
Memory stimulation by using memontoes
Avoid stressing or correcting memory mistakes
