Drainage - Coggle Diagram
Drainage
The waterlogging caused:
Reduce the aeration
Reduce the root penetration
Limits the plants ability to exploit nutrients in the soil
The waterlogging damage the roots because create the yellowing of surface vegetation
Good drainage caused:
The right balance of air and water in the soil
Incrase the plants capacity to take the nutritional substance from the soil
Improve the biological activity
Breaking down the humus
Two type of drainage:
Natural
Depends on the particles the soil is composed of:
Clay particles
It's more difficult to penetrate for water
Sandy soil
The water passes down easily
Artificial
Is necessary when the water don't penetrate rapidly
Physical and Biological changes are important for:
The vigorous plants can help a clay soil to stabilize fissures
In this case we have a good drainage
In a sandy soil we have a free drainage anyway
This is a good think but not in the totaly of cases
Because a very rapid dreinage create an excessive leaching and consequent loss of nutrients
The problem
The activity of earthworms
To manage sands, silts, clay and loams in a way which encourages water penetration.
The utility of drainage
Is necessary to remove excess water
Drainage have 2 different mainings:
The natural capacity of the soil
The removal of surplus water from the soil
