Circulatory System - Coggle Diagram
Circulatory System
Smooth muscle
Found in digestive system (intestines), oesophagus, veins and arteries. Involuntary
-
Capillaries
One cell thick, exchange of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other substances between blood and body tissues
RBC
Erythrocyte. Carries oxygen via haemoglobin. Biconcave, no nucleus, can change shape without breaking
WBC
Leukocyte. Defence mechanism. Different types: neutrophils, basophils, eosinophils, monocytes, lymphocytes
Platelet
Thrombocyte. Involved in clotting, produced in red marrow fragment. Produces tiny fibrinogen fibres to produce a net that traps other blood cells to form a clot
-
Arteries
Small lumen, thick and elastic walls, takes oxygenated blood away from the heart and around the body, takes blood under high pressure
-
-
Plasma
Carries blood cells, yellow fluid
Blood also contains
Oxygen, carbon dioxide, digested food, urea, hormones, and other things
Cardiac muscle
Heart muscle (only found in heart), involuntary, highly resistant to fatigue, controlled by pacemaker cells
Veins
Valves, large lumen, takes deoxygenated blood to the heart (exception: pulmonary vein), not very elastic, takes blood under low pressure
Striated/skeletal muscle
Attached to skeleton to create movement, voluntary
Gaseous exchange: air goes to lungs, oxygen diffuses into alveoli through capillaries, oxygenated blood travels to heart and is transported around the body, deoxygenated blood travels back to alveoli and picks up waste products, diffuses back into alveoli
