pathophysiology
caused by prolonged high levels of glucose over time, high blood sugar levels weaken and damage small blood vessels within retina. this may cause haemorrhages, exudates and swelling of the retina. then tis starves the retina of oxygen, and abnormal vessels may grow.

causes
It is caused by high blood sugar due to diabetes. over time, having too much sugar in your blood can damage the retina(the part of the eye that detects light ad sends signals to the brain through the optic nerve. diabetes damages the blood vessels all over the body.
clinical manifestations
spots or dark strings flotaing in your vision
blurred vision
fluctuating vision
impaired color vision
dark or empty areas in your vision
vision loss
diagnostic procedure
comprehensive dilated eye exam. the drops are places into the eyes widen you pupils to allow the better view inside the eyes. the drops may cause your close vision to blur until they wear off, several times.
