Man against Monster
Protagonists often encounter a 'monster', a person who creates problems for them.
Shows how deaf people have overcome, how they have thrived as deaf people, even when the hearing world has tried to stop them.

Yet, not all stories have to do with battling a monster. In some cases the monster wins.
Rags to Riches

It can be the lack of money, love, respect, knowledge etc.
Versions of this are popular in ASL stories as the ducklings learns it is deaf and develops beautiful signing skills.
Voyage and Return

The protagonist leaves home for a journey and returns, usually changed in some way.
The Quest
In a quest, the protagonist deliberately sets out from home on a dangerous journey to seek something, often with companions.

Subjects and Themes
Concrete and literal topic, what the text is about.
The events that occur in the piece and the behavior of the characters that form its subject will be ways to represent the theme.
Themes in Life and Deaf
Usually, they often reflect negative attitudes to their experiences.
